Gökçeada Dereköy

This tiny village was the biggest village of Turkey – once upon a time - located 14 kilometers west of the Centre. You can see it at the spacious school building, which is completely empty and deserted today. The few kids in the village must go to another village for school. In front of the school building there is a giant tree where you can rest, just against it there is a Greek church, which is closed today.

The building, which is used to wash the clothes once upon a time, is still intact even though nobody bothers to wash anything anymore. There is just the very cold water flowing in the buildings stony floor and a few visitors. There are tiny olive oil, soap, and honey producers in the village, which may be interesting to visit.
